The demand for creative face masks gave artisans affected by the lockdown a new lease of life Across India, artisans are embroidering beautiful designs onto masks, creating stunning pieces of work that are environmentally friendly, as opposed to the use-and-throw surgical masks. Traditional saree weavers, too, are putting their regional prints to use on face masks, and jewellers are getting crafty with their gems. In reviving dying or endangered artforms these regional art on hand-crafted masks are not just a livelihood project but also a social campaign. It encourages art in the form of masks.
